Manual claims it's a Kenwood FXDD07EF2. As does the top of the unit. When you remove power from the unit and power it back on it "loads" from the Map DVD what i can only guess is a whole bunch of "Subaru" settings.
The sticker also claims it's a Y39-5530-21. but outside of Kenwood this probably doesn't mean anything.
Hidden Subaru Impreza "Dealer Diag Menu"
Should be good for both the 08 and 09.
Process:
1. Turn key to "ON" position
2. Press "Agree"
3. Press the "Audio" button
4. Press the right most volume knob (Audio Off)
5. The screen should now be blank except for "Audio Off" at the top
6. Tap the left side of the screen, then the right. Repeat 6 times
7. The Hidden Menu should now show up
Taken from this excellent pdf file i just found. I wonder if there is a 2009 version.
There is definitely more here as the there is a menu for "Dealer Setup" which is blank which implies there is a way to access some actual settings rather then just some diagnostic readouts.
(and probably an 08)
If you remove power from the deck you lose your radio station presets. You don't lose your saved locations or anything else(as far as i can tell).
Starting with this.
Turn the ignition to the "ON" position and then press the "Tilt" button in the bottom left. Select DVD Map and select "Yes" to perform the DVD Map operation. When the face comes down remove the Map DVD. You can now turn the igntion Off and the face will stay down.
There are 5 clips holding on the front bezel. With the Face down place you fingers into the two top left and right corners and pull gently. It should come right off.
Now with the bezel off you can turn the igntion back on and tilt the face back up to it's normal position.
Now remove 4 screws as indictated by the Red Arrows in the picture below. The Screws with the blue arrows are for the surround cage. Best to leave these in while your trying to get the unit out. With these screws out the unit should come far enough out of the dash for you to unplug the cables from the rear. One cable actually has it's plug inside the dash cavity so you'll have to balance the unit in one hand while trying to unclip it without seeing it with the other. Fun Times.
That's it.
He are some pictures of the unit and cables.
To install, it's the same process but in reverse. If you remove the power from the deck, when you turn it on for the first time it asks you for a DVD. After which it proceeds to "Load" it. This menu only comes up when first powered on. Which means most of the info in on the map DVD. If you ever wanted to do a hack i would suggest disassembling the Map DVD and seeing how it works. I bet you could have a custom DVD that loaded your own version of the firmware with your own settings. You could probably even make it less shit.
